NOVEMBER 9, 2016 (GLENDORA, CA) – Ernie Cooper, CPA/CFF, CFE, JD, a partner at Vicenti, CPAs in Glendora, has recently received regional and national attention for his expertise in forensic accounting and sought-after insights on the Ben Affleck movie “The Accountant.”
A feature article on Cooper’s take on “The Accountant” was recently published in The Wrap, “Does Ben Affleck’s ‘The Accountant’ Add Up With Real Accountants?”, in which Cooper said “It was very realistic when he came in and went to the conference room and he gets all those boxes,” said Cooper, who used to look at fraud at the FBI and now examines corporate clients’ books. “You get called in, ‘Hey, here’s all these boxes, go back X number of years and figure this thing out.’” Another article in Forbes, “Real Accountants Spill the Beans on Hollywood’s “The Accountant’”, pointed out that Cooper’s firm, Vicenti, hosted a staff group screening of the movie when it launched. Cooper even feels that “The Accountant” will bolster efforts to recruit CPAs. “We bring in a lot of brand new college graduates [for recruiting], and I go around and talk to colleges about different careers as an accountant,” Cooper said. “This is kind of a little bit more of a cool factor; these kinds of things can only be good.” Cooper has also been featured in the Los Angeles Business Journal for his forensic accounting expertise and has been involved in many high-profile fraud cases in the news, in particular those involving educational institutions.
Cooper, a former 20-year FBI special agent, is a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. In addition to being a licensed Certified Public Accountant, he a Certified Fraud Examiner, and is licensed to practice law in California. He earned his J.D. from Western State University, College of Law, and B.A. in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton.
